Electric vehicles referred to as ‘EVs’ have gained momentum in the last decade. Rising carbon footprints and environmental degradation led to the birth of electric vehicles. For the automobile industry, the rise of EVs is an opportunity to make India more sustainable.

From not knowing electric vehicles to making EV a buzzword, the e-mobility domain has come a long way. India made its first concrete decision to incentivize EVs in 2010. Under a Rs 95-crore scheme approved by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the government announced financial incentives for manufacturers of electric vehicles sold in India. Since then, the central government has taken several steps to get more Indians to adopt EVs.

According to the Department of Heavy Industries, The Indian automotive sector is close to a $100 billion industry and employs over 19 million people. Within this is the electric vehicles (EV) sector, which is seeing a transformation with new technologies and new ways of ownership. The changes driving the sector are electric vehicles, shared mobility, autonomous driving, IoT-enabled connected vehicles, and increasing line automation in manufacturing.

As Planet Earth faces an unprecedented crisis, it’s time for everyone to step up and play their part. Cars/two-wheelers are taken out of their parking spots and onto the roads and millions of kilometers are driven on a daily basis. One of the keys to tackling climate change is reducing vehicular emissions.

Conclusion

EVs can prove to be the next big revolution of this era as it is very good for the environment as well as will help reduce vehicular emissions which will create sustainable development and control the climatic conditions.
